Kathryn Brahaney
Hello! I’m Kathryn Brahaney. I am Mixed Media Artist based in Asheville, NC. My art is an expression of the inner child, channeled messages and energy I want to introduce to this world. My work is built from upcycled and low waste materials.
Pablo Picasso said, “All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.” I plan to celebrate my inner artist and share her work with the world as long as possible. While I won multiple awards for my artwork in high school and college, I didn’t give myself permission to fully embrace myself as an artist until a few years ago.
My work involves crafting art from uncommon materials. I carefully harvest sustainable driftwood from the Great Lakes, and combine this with ceramics and crystals that amplify the meaning of said works. I salvage burlap from a send off to landfills, prime it with excess primer from local charity resale stores and paint vibrant landscapes. My greatest passion is to show my audience we have everything we need–from within, from and within our community, from the earth.
I look forward to sharing my art with you!
